When I quit drinking four years ago, I expected it to change my life, but I didn’t realize that it would change my personality as well.

Although I didn’t realize it at the time, years of heavy drinking had turned me into an incredibly dull person. I didn’t have any serious interests or hobbies. I worked hard in school and at my job, but spent the rest of my time mostly just watching television.

Quitting drinking gave me the room I needed to discover who I really am. I became happier and more optimistic. …

Even with races cancelled, I was still able to achieve this major running goal.

This year, I achieved one of my long-term running goals by running a half marathon in under two hours. Because of the pandemic, there have been no group races, so I completed the entire run solo. Despite the challenges that this presented, the run went smoothly, thanks to careful planning and preparation.

Of course, I know that breaking two hours doesn’t exactly put me into the elite category, but for a hobbyist like myself, I’m still incredibly proud of this time. …

I’ve often struggled with writing due to my anxiety. I sometimes get so in my head about whether my work will be any good, or how it will be received, that I end up spending more time stressing than actually writing. I’ve experienced this with all kinds of writing, from fiction to professional memos. What’s more, anxiety can interrupt any step of the writing process.
