Constance Wu Attempted Suicide After Twitter Bullying
The star of “Fresh Off the Boat” recently revealed the shocking reason behind her disappearance.
Three years ago, the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat got renewed for a sixth season. Surprisingly, Constance Wu, who stars as Jessica Huang, the mother of the family, took to Twitter to express her dismay at the renewal.
She sent a few tweets expressing her disappointment, including the line “So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. Fuck[.]”
The backlash from fans was immense. They criticized her for taking for granted an opportunity that would be a dream come true for struggling actors. They accused her of all sorts of awful things.
Shortly afterward, Wu offered an apology. She explained that she “was temporarily upset yesterday not bc I hate the show but bc its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about. So my dismayed social media replies were more about that other project and not about FOTB [Fresh Off the Boat].”
Then, Wu disappeared. She left social media completely and even took a break from acting.
