Thanks for the thoughtful response. I don’t entirely disagree with you, but I still stand firm that my goal is to never drink again.

I’ve seen at least one academic study that showed some heavy drinkers can eventually become occasional drinkers, so I’ll admit it’s definitely possible. But, I’ve also heard of people who stayed sober for years, thought they could start drinking moderately, and ended up spiraling back into addiction. I really think I’d be in the second category, and I just would never want to take the risk. If other people can do it, more power to them.
