Hey, Medium writers! Do you want to chat with other Medium writers and help each other grow? Well, you’re in luck.
Back in July I created a Discord server for Medium writers to talk with each other. (If you haven’t heard of Discord, it’s essentially just a chatroom server.)
The conversation has slowed down there a bit lately, so I just wanted to mention it again for anyone who missed the initial post. As I said in that first post:
I know that there are already plenty of Facebook groups and Discord servers for Medium. What sets this group apart from the rest is that no self-promotion is allowed.
On this server, you are not allowed to link to your Medium profile or posts for any reason.
Why such an unusual rule? Because I’ve seen far too many Medium communities overrun by writers who only want to spam links to their latest articles. My hope is that by banning all self-promotion, we can instead focus on actually having substantive conversations.
Aside from that rule, any discussion is fair game. If you’re brand new, it’s a great place to ask experienced Medium writers for help. If you’re more experienced, you can use the server to help new writers, network, or learn even more about writing here. You can even just come into the chat to complain. Please don’t be shy about jumping right into the discussion or starting a new one.
Don’t worry if you’ve never used Discord. It’s free and easy, and all you need to do to get started is follow this link.
This is a completely open community to anyone who writes on Medium. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been blogging here for years or are still working on your first post. So, please, check it out, say hello, and feel free to share the link with your friends: https://discord.gg/4JSy39Wame.
